Domain issues

...thought i would just casually redirect domain and email accounts. Has not gone well at all, and getting a live person on the phone to get it straightened out has proven to be difficult.

Catalyst

Well, I worked real hard to get Catalyst off the ground, only to have the majority shareholder pull out before it was able to stand on its own. We were three months in on a 6 month plan, albeit with a higher burn rate than I expected, and outside forces caused the financial backer to pull out.

This, unfortunately, is all too common nowadays.

I talked with the President of a technology venture yesterday, a super sharp guy with a good plan, and a good product, who's been in business for two years and hasn't broken even yet. It's only a matter of time until his funding sources decide not to throw any more money at it.

In this environment, there are good ideas that won't make it because the burn phase of all these ventures has been extended. Then, of course, there are mediocre ideas that will make it because they have a lot of cash at their disposal. I suppose it's always been this way.

The deflationary mindset has taken hold. it can be characterized in one small sentence that I've heard a few times now: "...I'm going to wait a little while and see what happens..."

In the venture world..even at my lowly level...it means that the time to get a company up and running at operational break-even is longer. Investors haven't really ratcheted down their expectations to that reality yet. It's like everything else in the capitalist system...when times are good and credit is free, prices are quick to expand. when times are hard and cash and credit are tight, nobody wants to believe that their building is worth less, their used car is worth less, their home is worth less...and so it takes a long time to get down to the "right" levels...more rational "recalibrated" levels. And, the slower we all are to adjust our expectations, the longer it will take.

Civilized society or a banana republic?

"...one of the things that separates civilized society from a banana republic is a respect for civil law, [for contract law]."

Ephesians 1:15-19

"For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I do not cease to give thanks for you when I remember you in my prayers. I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you spiritual wisdom and revelation in your growing knowledge of him, - since the eyes of your heart have been enlightened - so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the incomparable greatness of his power toward us who believe, as displayed in the exercise of his immense strength." (NET Bible)

Interesting Statistics on the 2008 election

Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law,
St. Paul, Minnesota, points out facts of 2008 Presidential election:

Number of States won by:
Democrats: 19
Republicans: 29

Square miles of land won by:
Democrats: 580,000
Republicans: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by:
Democrats: 127 million
Republicans: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
Democrats: 13.2
Republicans: 2.1

Professor Olson adds:
"In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won by Republicans
was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.

Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in
government-owned tenements and living off various forms of
government welfare.

Professor Olson believes the United States is now somewhere
between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's
definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's
population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal
invaders called illegal's and they vote, then we can say goodbye to
the USA in fewer than five years

Pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake,
knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

What to Pray for our kids

Texts to Pray for Our Children
April 24, 2007 By: Jon Bloom
Category: Recommendations, Ministry Updates

Recently a good friend shared with me these verses that he and his wife have prayed for their two daughters (now teens) since they were babies. I find them very helpful and have included them in my prayer folder for my children. I thought I’d pass them along to you as well. (Thanks, Chris!)

That Jesus will call them and no one will hinder them from coming.
Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” And he laid his hands on them and went away. (Matthew 19:13-15)

That they will respond in faith to Jesus’ faithful, persistent call.

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)

That they will experience sanctification through the transforming work of the Holy Spirit and will increasingly desire to fulfill the greatest commandments.

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself." (Matthew 22:37-39)

That they will not be unequally yoked in intimate relationships, especially marriage.

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14)

That their thoughts will be pure.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (Philippians 4:8)

That their hearts will be stirred to give generously to the Lord's work.

All the men and women, the people of Israel, whose heart moved them to bring anything for the work that the Lord had commanded by Moses to be done brought it as a freewill offering to the Lord. (Exodus 35:29)

That when the time is right, they will GO!

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

Message in Mt. Hope

Last Sunday's Message:

Romans 1
People who supress the Truth. want to worship a "god" of their own design, rather than The God who is.

Isaiah 6
Isaiah gets a glimpse of God and is "undone".
God - Isaiah sees God...Holy and Awesome.
Guilt - Isaiah is keenly aware of his own sinfulness up against God's holiness.
Grace - God gives grace to Isaiah: "your sins are atoned for". a glimpse of the atoning work (Isa 53).
Gratitude - Isaiah, motivated by gratitude for this Grace, and wanting to be used.
Growth - How does an accurate understanding of God's holiness impact us practically? We should be growing in our understanding of His holiness. We should be growing in ethical purity as we understand that all sin...even the "little" sins we allow ourselves...is an affront to God's Holy character.

1 Peter 1
Motivation to ethical purity.
The Gospel.

1Pe 1:14 Like obedient children, do not comply with32 the evil urges you used to follow in your ignorance,33
1Pe 1:15 but, like the Holy One who called you, become holy yourselves in all of your conduct,
1Pe 1:16 for it is written, "You shall be holy, because I am holy."34
1Pe 1:17 And if you address as Father the one who impartially judges according to each one's work, live out the time of your temporary residence here35 in reverence.
1Pe 1:18 You know that from your empty way of life inherited from your ancestors you were ransomed — not by perishable things like silver or gold,
1Pe 1:19 but by precious blood like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb, namely Christ.
1Pe 1:20 He was foreknown36 before the foundation of the world but37 was manifested in these last times38 for your sake.
1Pe 1:21 Through him you now trust39 in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
1Pe 1:22 You have purified40 your souls by obeying the truth41 in order to show sincere mutual love.42 So43 love one another earnestly from a pure heart.44
1Pe 1:23 You have been born anew, not from perishable but from imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.
1Pe 1:24 For
all flesh45 is like grass:
and all its glory like the flower of the grass;46
the grass withers and the flower falls off,
1Pe 1:25 but the word of the Lord47 endures forever.48
And this is the word that was proclaimed to you.

Swords are for Killing...

(Author: John Piper)
In New Testament times swords were not for digging, shaving, or whittling. They were for killing. The only reason Peter cut off Malchus's ear was that he missed (John 18:10).
But Herod didn't miss: "He killed James the brother of John with the sword" (Acts 12:2).
Many saints have felt the full force of the sword: "They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword" (Hebrews 11:37). So it was and will be: "If anyone is to be slain with the sword, with the sword must he be slain" (Revelation 13:10).
That's what swords are for. So when Paul calls the word of God the "sword of the Spirit" in Ephesians 6:17, he is serious—something must be put to death. And it is not people. Christians don't kill people to spread our faith; we die to spread our faith.
The link in Paul's mind is given in Romans 8:13.
If by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
The word of God is the sword of the Spirit. The Sword is for putting to death. And by the Spirit we put to death our sinful deeds. So I conclude that the way we kill our sins is with the Spirit's sword, the word of God.
All temptations to sin have power by lying. The are "deceitful desires" (Ephesians 4:22). They tell us that the pleasure of the sin is worth it. The killing blow against these lies is the power of God's truth. Hence the sword of the Spirit, God's word, is the weapon to use.
As John Owen said, "Be killing sin, or it will be killing you." That is what swords are for, especially the Bible.
